March Member of the Month – William Mejía

DJ Name: DJ Kuzi

Where You’re from: San Juan, Puerto Rico

What is your show called and what does it entail?

My show is called Oranges & Peaches, which is the punchline to a joke from one of my favorite movies, Party Girl. Although my show has a different theme every week, I focus mostly on female artists. Some of my themes include “Post-apocalyptic 80s Synths”, “Nightclub Disco in Space” and “Songs with Numbers in their Titles”. I also try to incorporate at least one song in Spanish because I think we should get exposed to other types of music we don’t usually hear everyday.

Why did you become a DJ?

I was fed up with my local DJs because they would always play the same songs 24/7 so I chose to become one myself to get more diverse music on air! I’m also a huge fan of Empire Records so I’m sure that had something to do with it as well.

What is your favorite thing about being a DJ?

My favorite thing about being is a DJ is that every single time I’m on air, I basically have my own one-person dance party at the studio.

What is your favorite album and/or artist of all time?

My all-time favorite album is definitely Shakira’s “¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?” and my current favorite artist is Charli XCX.
