Songs of Ghastly Menace by Ghastly Menace
Review By: Jasmine Francois
Rating: 5/10
I would describe this album as ‘mellow’. It’s a pretty typical, indie-rock album, with some ballad like songs mixed with songs that try to excite you about protesting or something. If you pick any song from this album and play a 30-second snippet, you’ll probably be interested in hearing more. The instruments are good, there are some cool ethereal/slightly psychedelic sounds, and the singer isn’t half bad either. Unfortunately, listening to the entire album is almost tedious. Individually, the songs are okay but there’s no wow factor at all. Most times when I listen to an album all the way through, there is at least one moment when I have to stop what I’m doing and listen to the song, but with this album there was nothing. I actually listened to this album twice and forgot I was listening to anything because the music is very non-committal. If you’re looking for background music while you do your dishes, this is the album for you. If you’re wanting to be moved or at all excited about what you’re listening to, please try something else.
