Cage the Elephant has put out another brilliant album, their fourth to be exact. This album is a lot softer than some of their past work, only a few songs pack a bit of a punch. The majority of the songs are hardcore, but not in the way that would bust your eardrums, more like the lyrics are pretty heavy. Though melancholy, the songs are deeply moving, and constructed with great care; each one consists of clever and catchy accompaniment surrounding heartfelt lyrics. More than half of the songs start off soft and slow as they lead up to the main components of the track, but the first song and last couple songs on the album are more upbeat and spunky all the way through. “Sweetie Little Jean” and “Too Late to Say Goodbye” are my two favorites, both are softer, but they have their moments of intensity. This alternative rock band from Kentucky has out done themselves, with this collection of foolproof tracks. I truly enjoyed getting to listen to the whole thing all the way through, but the songs out of order and by themselves certainly work as well.
