Iowa state lost a close game to Oklahoma Thursday by a score of 34 to 24. Baker Mayfield had a great game throwing for 328 yards and four touchdowns. Jacob Park was also solid with 160 yards and 2 touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to get the win. Oklahoma jumped out an early With Baker Mayfield throwing a six yard touchdown to Mark Andrews on the first drive of the game. Iowa State would later put up a field goal, but Oklahoma answered back with a 30 yard touchdown pass to Jeffery Mead from Baker Mayfield. A majority of the second quarter was dominated by Iowa State. Jacob Park threw a 31 yard pass to Allen Lazard to get the Cyclones back in the game. Iowa State’s defense looked great for a lot of the quarter. Oklahoma had a 65 yard kick return and iowa State managed to prevent the Sooner from even getting a first down. Later Joel Lanning had a great touchdown run for 41 yards, giving Iowa State their only lead of the game. After this Iowa State gave up two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the quarter giving Oklahoma back the lead.The first was a 65 yard pass from baker Mayfield to Dede Westbrook. The was an eleven yard pass to Dimitri Flowers with only six seconds left in the half. The third quarter provided a lot of great defense from both sides. The only score was Oklahoma filled goal extending their lead to two touchdowns. The fourth quarter provided some hope for Iowa State after Jacob Park threw a 23 yard touchdown to Dondre Daley, narrowing the lead to just a touchdown. Oklahoma crushed Iowa State’s comeback attempt with field goal and solid defense play the rest of the game. Iowa State will play their next game against Kansas in Lawrence.
