I went to Father John Misty at the Val Air Ballroom on October 1. The opener band was Cut Worms – they have an acoustic, fall, coming of age vibe to their music. I enjoyed the lead singer’s bright tonal production that led the crowd through the poetry of their songwriting. They have a different vibe from Father John Misty, but enough similarities for the crowd to enjoy their show!
Father John Misty’s lyricism is inherently deep and poetic. The intentionality of his phrasing evokes a lot of emotions in me, and even more live! I didn’t know what to expect of his stage presence going into the show. I was lucky to get front row so I could observe closely! He engaged the audience theatrically and would do little actions while he sang. It felt like watching a story play out live! My favorite song he sang was Chateau Lobby #4.
Also, I would highly suggest going to the Val Air Ballroom to see a show! The ticket people checked us in before hand which was convenient. The atmosphere of the room is welcoming and homey. I love that it’s a ballroom so it is meant to be a space to dance, appreciate music, and be yourself!
